Based on the assessment results, a BCBA develops an individualized ABA treatment plan with goals tailored to your child’s unique needs.

Your child is paired with a trained behavior technician who is a good fit for their personality, learning style, and treatment goals.

Frequently asked questions

A behavior technician works directly with a child during ABA therapy sessions. They follow the treatment plan, teach skills, use positive reinforcement, collect data, and support progress under clinical supervision.

Yes, a college degree is not usually required to become an RBT. Most candidates need to meet basic eligibility requirements, complete required training, pass a competency assessment, and complete the RBT exam process.

Yes, behavior technician work can be a strong entry-level role for people interested in ABA therapy, autism support, psychology, education, or behavioral health. It gives hands-on experience working with children and families.

The timeline can vary based on training, assessment scheduling, application processing, and exam availability. Many candidates begin with the required 40-hour training, then complete the competency assessment and application steps.

Some roles may involve supporting daily living or self-care routines, depending on the child’s age, needs, and treatment plan. Job expectations should be explained clearly by the employer before starting services.

For many people, yes. The role can be meaningful because behavior technicians help children build communication, social, daily living, and independence skills while gaining valuable experience in ABA therapy.

Higher-paid RBTs may earn more based on experience, location, employer type, schedule, and specialized skills. Pay is often higher in areas with strong ABA demand, higher cost of living, or more advanced clinical responsibilities.

RBT pay can vary because of experience level, certification status, full-time or part-time schedules, employer benefits, and location. RBTs with strong data collection, communication, and behavior support skills may have better opportunities.

In many settings, Registered Behavior Technicians may earn more than non-certified behavior technicians because they have completed certification requirements. Pay still depends on the employer, region, role expectations, and experience.

Roles such as BCaBA, BCBA, clinical supervisor, behavior specialist, or program manager often pay more because they require additional education, certification, and supervision responsibilities.

ABA is a field, while RBT is a specific role within ABA therapy. A BCBA or clinical supervisor in ABA usually earns more than an RBT because they design treatment plans and supervise care.

RBT work can be emotionally and physically demanding because sessions may involve active play, challenging behaviors, documentation, and schedule changes. Good training, supervision, and workplace support can make the role more manageable.

RBT salary in Southern California varies by city, employer, experience, and schedule. Pay rates in areas such as Glendale, Burbank, Northridge, Studio City, Granada Hills, Beverly Hills, and Pasadena may differ based on local demand, employer benefits, and available hours.

RBTs may earn more than non-certified behavior technicians in Southern California because certification can demonstrate additional training and competency. However, pay depends on the company, location, caseload, and benefits package.

The process can move fairly quickly if training, competency assessment, application, and exam scheduling are completed without delays. Candidates in Glendale, Burbank, Northridge, Studio City, Granada Hills, Beverly Hills, Pasadena, and nearby communities should follow current BACB requirements and employer guidance.

Some RBTs may earn more than certain entry-level or part-time education roles, while teachers with degrees and experience may earn more than RBTs. Pay depends heavily on location, employer type, hours, and benefits.

RBT work in Southern California can be rewarding but demanding, especially when supporting children with challenging behaviors or managing busy therapy schedules. Strong supervision and clear support systems are important for long-term success.

For many RBT roles in Southern California, $23 an hour may be considered entry-level or moderate pay depending on experience, city, schedule, benefits, and travel requirements. Candidates in Glendale, Burbank, Northridge, Studio City, Granada Hills, Beverly Hills, and Pasadena should compare local job listings and total compensation, not hourly pay alone.

Becoming an RBT is manageable for many people, but it does require training, study, supervision, and professionalism. Candidates need to understand ABA basics, ethics, data collection, and client support procedures.

Some RBTs leave because of burnout, inconsistent schedules, travel demands, challenging behaviors, or limited workplace support. Strong supervision, fair scheduling, and clear communication can help improve retention.

Some candidates complete the process in a few weeks, while others take longer depending on training access, assessment scheduling, application review, and exam availability. The timeline depends on both the candidate and provider process.

RBT pay can feel low compared with the emotional and physical demands of the work. Pay is often influenced by insurance reimbursement, employer budgets, location, experience, certification, and service setting.

In many areas, RBTs are in demand because ABA providers need trained staff to support children with autism. Hiring still depends on certification status, availability, experience, background checks, and fit with the provider.

A BCBA usually earns more than an RBT or behavior technician because the role requires advanced education, certification, assessment skills, treatment planning, and clinical supervision responsibilities.
